Mango Lassi Gose – Launch 31st October
Back in August I attended the Beer Boot Camp in Johannesburg, and whilst it was an excellent conference, with great talks from international industry experts, one talk in particular really stood out for me. Fal Allen from Anderson Valley Brewing Company literally wrote the book on the modern day Gose (of course I bought a copy!)
Some months prior, at our little homebrew club; The Garage Project, we put together a Mango Lassi Gose, influenced by a beer from Omnipollo of Sweden. We were very happy with the beer we produced and from this recipe, using some knowledge picked up from Fal and his book I knew this had to be re-created as Feral’s next beer.
A mango lassi is a yoghurt based drink common in India, made with mango and seasoned with cardamom. A Gose (pronounced ‘Go-zuh’) is an ancient German sour beer, usually made with a high percentage of wheat and seasoned with salt. Without a Concern is not a traditional Gose in any sense of the word. However for this beer we wanted to marry together our favourite elements of the Gose, with the fresh tastes of the Mango Lassi.
Kettle soured and brewed with milk sugar to give that creamy element of the lassi, lightly seasoned with cardamom and salt and fermented with a whole load of mango puree, this beer is extremely refreshing and perfect for a hot summers day.
Without a Concern is the third in a series of limited release beers showcasing local artists. White on Rice is a brand centered around the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). They create origami installations and social media content for brand campaigns locally and around the world. Social media content in the form of stop motion animations and photography. This business was born out of the fascination with origami and a desire to create something unique.
Yet again we contract brewed this beer at Shackleton Brewing Company in Salt River and this will be the venue for our launch party on Thursday 31st October from 5pm. We have an extremely limited supply of cans, that you can buy on the night, or pre-order for collection on our online store here. For more information you can check out the events page on Facebook here.
We hope you can join us and we look forward to hearing your thoughts on this beer. Cheers, Mike
